When Jack Ketchum (Lou Diamond Philips) loses control of his car during a thunderstorm, he is knocked unconscious and saved by the beautiful country woman, Willie Yates (Mia Sara). His next image is of her terrifying 'mountain-man' husband, Lyle Yates (Charles Dance) pointing a double-barreled shotgun at his head.Lyle makes it perfectly clear that Jack is off their property -rain or shine- by dawn or he could turn into bait for some of the animals he traps. However, plans change as a hurricane heads their way. Willie, afraid for their safety, begs her husband to evacuate but Lyle refuses. Jack shares her concerns and they start developing an attraction towards each other. What will kill them first?
